Weight Loss Tip #3: Crank Up the Music

If you want to have a longer, more effective workout, then use a portable music device. I remember reading several years ago that people who listened to music while exercising were able to work out for seven minutes longer than those who listened to no music. I personally find that a driving beat in a musical style I enjoy can get me pumped up to not only start working out on days when I feel lazy, but also to increase my intensity and workout length.

Music also makes working out more enjoyable. With some mp3 players selling for as low as 20 dollars, there is no excuse not to use this workout enhancer.

The best way to listen to music is to get a small player and an armband or waist clip. That way the player doesn't affect your mobility. Large tape players usually get in the way and CD players frequently skip. A small mp3 player is the way to go and they are usually about the same price as a portable CD player. You also have the advantage of loading a variety of music (in some cases up to 1000s of songs). If your player takes batteries, get rechargeables since regular batteries can be expensive and the players are often drains. What music should you have on your player? Basically whatever motivates you to workout. Some people, however, find that driving dance songs are helpful for good workouts.
