Weight Loss Tip #1: Get Others Involved

Jonathan smallJonathan Bennett

If you want to be successful in anything, it's always helpful to have other people on your side. This is especially important with weight loss because family and friends are your core of support. Although some may just ignore your health goals, sadly, if you decide to get healthy, you may even find that others may get jealous and purposefully try to get you to stumble. This is especially true if you used to engage in unhealthy behaviors with them.

So, how can you get other people on your side? Many people don't even need convinced. They will support you regardless. These are the people you can take advantage of. Here are a few ideas of how to benefit from them (and they from you):

Partner with them for support- Discuss your goals, struggles, etc. and draw support from each other. You can also learn from each other regarding recipes, techniques, etc.

Workout with them- Having two or three people with a weight loss goal is a blessing when it comes to exercise. Walking, skiiing, running, hiking, and many other individual activities can be more interesting and meaningful if done with friends. And, having a partner can open you up to many other sports and activites that one person cannot do like racketball.

What about those who are less than supportive? The best way to get the reluctant on board with your new healthy lifestyle is to bring them into your experience. Keep in mind that if you've recently decided to lose weight and have gotten "excited" about it then you are the one who has changed. Your friends and family may just miss the old you. Here are few suggestions to win them over:

Invite family and friends to exercise with you

Suggest a restaurant where everyone can get healthy foods

Invite them over and cook a great tasting and healthy meal for them

Clearly explain your goals and motivations and how you want their support

Just remember that people need to make their own choices and you can't (and shouldn't) browbeat, guilt trip, or nag anyone into good health. And don't be snobby and judgmental about your own fitness and health; remember your own struggles.

So, start networking and lose some weight!
